Casting Call for Black History Month 2021 Monologue

Date published
Friday 15 October 2021

Blue Elephant Theatre is seeking an actor to perform a short original monologue, created in response to our Black History Month 2021 project, supported by Southwark Council. Taking inspiration from the theme Harmony in Diversity, we have explored how areas in the UK that have become celebrated and well-known due to diverse Black communities settling there.

The monologue is being written by Nicole Acquah and will be 15-20 minutes long.

We are seeking a female Black actor, with a playing age of 18-30 who can also portray a child. The monologue will be quite lyrical (using repetition and rhythm) so experience with poetry/lyricism and delivering text with metre will be useful.

The total fee is £250 to cover:
- Short rehearsal at Blue Elephant Theatre (at a mutually agreed time during the week of October 25th)
- The monologue being recorded and uploaded to YouTube (initial agreement for up to one year)
- A full day at Blue Elephant Theatre on October 29th, with performances at 3pm and 7.30pm (starting around 12pm)

How to apply: Please apply via our audition notice on Mandy or by emailing submissions@blueelephanttheatre.co.uk by end of day on Monday October 18th with a CV/spotlight link and short cover note outlining your suitability for the project. We may be able to cast based on show reels without holding auditions but we will respond to all applications.

Please email Niamh at niamh@blueelephanttheatre.co.uk if you have any further questions.
